A SIMPLE MOTORCYCLE
AND COMPETENT
V-STROM 650
It wasn't the most beautiful motorcycle on the market when it debuted in 2004, inheriting the entire design of its larger 1000cc sibling, but from the start it gained a following attracted by its robustness, simplicity, durability, comfort for long journeys, and economy.
The owners of the DL650 don't have any big "stories" to tell.
Because they simply don't break down.
Mine was one of the first, it went over 100,000 km in my hands, and all it wore out was tires, transmission , and brakes.
But despite some people traveling the world on a V-STROM 650, off-road riding isn't its forte.
For the last 10 years I dreamed of riding off-road, but when I looked at a motorcycle I recoiled. That's why a few years ago I ended up owning a DR350, just for leisurely rides.
The turning point came recently (maybe it's a midlife crisis), when I met some people eager to go off-road, with motorcycles they also use every day. It's a good start, as it makes them more careful with their riding style.
This group is equipped with an Africa Twin 1000 and a CBX 500, the latter being one of my own – lots of enthusiasm and not much power.
That's when I took an important step... and goodbye V-Strom.
